Specialist support, without the usual delays

Nexus isn’t a traditional specialist facility, but your pet isn’t waiting longer for expert care because of it.

Our emergency team can work directly with veterinary specialists from a wide range of disciplines through a structured telemedicine network, often in real-time or within the same day.

It means faster access to specialist input, without the usual delays of a referral pathway that can take days or weeks. Rather than waiting, treatment can start here with no need for a transfer and a clear direction from the beginning. This level of rapid specialist access through telemedicine is not something typically available in South Australia.

Areas of specialist support

This support covers a wide range of clinical areas, including:

  • Internal medicine
  • Cardiology
  • Radiology
  • Surgery
  • Ophthalmology
  • Dermatology
  • Neurology
  • Oncology
  • Dentistry
  • Toxicology
  • Emergency and critical care
  • Anaesthesia and analgesia
  • Nutrition
  • Exotics

Access times vary depending on the service, but many consultations are available within hours, and most within 24 hours.

How our model works

Specialist input is provided through formal consultations, not quick or informal advice.

Our team works directly with the appropriate specialist, sharing clinical findings and diagnostics for detailed review. From this, we receive clear recommendations we can act on immediately.

We manage all communication with the specialist and keep you updated throughout, so you always have a clear understanding of your pet’s care. A written report is also provided to support ongoing treatment.

In the event your pet needs in-person care or a procedure we can’t provide here, we’ll guide you through the referral process and the next steps.

Advanced diagnostics for high-quality care

Specialist input only helps if you can act on it. Nexus is equipped to carry out many of the diagnostics needed, so we can move from consultation to treatment without interruption.

This includes procedures such as:

  • Endoscopy, bronchoscopy and cystoscopy
  • Ultrasound, including echocardiography
  • Advanced blood testing and pathology
  • Imaging reviewed by specialist radiologists

We also use advanced diagnostic technology to reduce turnaround times for common tests. For example, systems like the Imagyst analyse samples on-site rather than sending them to an external lab. Results are often available within hours.

Fast, coordinated care from emergency through to follow-up

Time is critical in any pet emergency. Faster access to specialist advice can lead to earlier diagnosis, treatment and in many cases, a better outcome.

At Nexus, everything is set up to support both you and your pet through an emergency. Access to specialist input via telemedicine means decisions can be made sooner, without the need to transfer your pet elsewhere. Your pet benefits from hands-on support alongside specialist insight, all within the same environment.
