FAQ

Will there be someone looking after my pet at Nexus Emergency Vet?

Yes, just like a human facility, our emergency vet service runs 24/7 with full medical supervision. Every patient has a vet overseeing their care and a dedicated nurse assigned to monitor and support them throughout their stay. Your pet is never left alone.

How much will an emergency vet visit cost?

We know unexpected bills can be stressful, especially in emergencies. That’s why we provide upfront, itemised estimates – no hidden fees, no surprise costs. What you see is what you pay. If anything changes, our medical team will talk it through with you first and decide together on the best way forward.

What counts as a pet emergency, & how do I know if I should come to the facility?

If you’re unsure, you can chat with a nurse and receive immediate medical guidance, or you can give us a call at any time.

What happens when I arrive at Nexus emergency vet?

You’ll be welcomed immediately by our Pet Family Liaison or one of our medical team. Within minutes, a triage nurse will assess your pet’s condition. Based on that triage level, your pet will be prioritised and seen by a vet as soon as possible.

Can I stay overnight with my pet at Nexus Emergency Vet?

At Nexus, yes! Our open-plan emergency vet centre is designed to support the human–animal bond, even during overnight stays. You’re always welcome to be by their side. At other emergency centre, no, this definitely is not the norm.

How long will I wait at an emergency vet before my pet is seen?

Wait times at Nexus depend on the urgency of your pet’s condition. Critical emergencies are seen immediately, while stable patients are triaged and treated as quickly as possible. You’ll be updated at every step. If there is a wait, you’ll have a transparent view of what’s happening on the floor and be able to see our triage system in action. Your pet will be frequently re-triaged to ensure they remain stable and comfortable.

Does Nexus Emergency Vet Centre treat injured stray animals?

We recommend taking stray animals to the RSPCA or a nearby general practice vet. However, if a stray pet is injured or in distress, our emergency vet team will provide immediate care and support.

Where can I take injured wildlife near me?

Wildlife should ideally be taken to local wildlife rescue organisations, such as:

Adelaide Bird Lovers
Sea Birds and Turtle Rescue
Wildlife Welfare Organisation
Save our Wildlife Foundation
Fauna Rescue SA
1300 KOALAZ
SA Native Animal Rescue SANAR

If that’s not possible and the animal is hurt or unwell, Nexus Emergency Vet can provide initial stabilisation and comfort care until further help is arranged.

Will my pet be comfortable during overnight care at an emergency vet?

Yes. Our 24/7 vet facility is designed with comfort and healing in mind – private wards, temperature control, calming music, pheromones, and soft bedding. We minimise stress by managing noise and separating recovery areas.

What care does my pet receive during an overnight stay at Nexus?

Your pet’s entire care plan is tracked using a live digital treatment system (Vet Radar), detailing every medication, feed, walk, check-up, and change. It ensures nothing is missed and everything your pet needs is delivered on time.

Do you accept payment plans?

Yes! We accept both GapOnly and VetPay. If you have questions about how either works or what might be suitable for your situation, our team is happy to help.
