Some conditions can’t wait for next-day surgery. When a pet is facing something life-threatening, such as a twisted stomach, internal bleeding or a dangerous infection, surgery is often the only way to save them. We have to act quickly.
Our team is highly trained for these high-risk situations, and we’re always prepared to operate immediately. Every second counts in an emergency. Nexus is fully equipped to respond fast. We have experienced surgeons and other professionals on hand 24/7 to support your pet, no matter what they’re going through.
We don’t perform routine or elective surgeries, and if surgery isn’t urgent, we will stabilise your pet and guide you to the next step.
We know it’s hard to see your pet severely unwell and that putting them through emergency surgery is a big decision. Our team will always explain why the operation is required, what the risks are and what recovery will look like, so you’re prepared and able to make the best decision for your family.
We will ensure you understand the long-term prognosis and support you during this process. The good news is, many pets will go on to live happy, healthy lives following emergency surgery.
During recovery, the Nexus team will monitor your pet and administer the care they need to begin to heal. This includes pain management and supportive treatments. You’ll never be left wondering how they are, our team will keep you informed at all times.
Effective recovery depends just as much on proper aftercare as it does on the procedure itself. Our team provides round-the-clock monitoring, and keeping your pet comfortable and stable is our top priority.
We closely observe for complications while tracking progress and adjusting treatment as needed.
While our centre features a unique open design that allows pets and owners to remain side-by-side for much of their stay at Nexus, surgeries take place in a fully equipped, sterile surgical suite. This is so we can provide the highest level of safety and infection control for your pet.
Dr Gosliga, THANK YOU for your tender care. My 14 year old rescue, Maya, had suddenly become very ill and the diagnosis was sepsis leading to organ failure. You discussed the treatment options in a compassionate way. We agreed on supportive care to improve her comfort, and then taking her to familiar surroundings for euthanasia at home. We miss Maya so much, but the quality of her last hours were in no small part due to your quick willingness to lend what helpful support you could.
