Nexus After Hours: Surgical Insights with Dr Charles Kuntz

Join us

Nexus Emergency Vet Hospital invites you to an evening of practical surgical CPD with specialist surgeon Dr Charles Kuntz, with real cases and surgical decision-making on the big screen.

WHAT: Two hours of surgical CPD
WHEN: Thursday 22 October, 7–9 pm ACDT
WHERE: Wallis Cinemas, Mitcham Square
TICKETS: $25 + GST
SUPPORTING: All ticket proceeds donated to Sophie’s Legacy

Event overview

Designed with the general practitioner in mind, this evening is about making better surgical decisions, before, during and after you’ve scrubbed in. Dr Kuntz will focus on two areas where a deliberate approach can change a patient’s outcome: removing lumps and bumps, and getting the most out of every abdominal exploratory.

On the big screen

Surgical Oncology in Dogs & Cats
Curing Lumps & Bumps

Avoiding the “Peek & Shriek”
Getting the Most Out of Your Abdominal Exploratories in Dogs & Cats

What you'll learn

Dr Kuntz will focus on a deliberate, systematic approach to surgery and the decisions that give each patient the best chance of a good outcome from the first operation. You’ll learn how to:

  • Approach common skin and subcutaneous masses
  • Plan tumour resections
  • Perform a systematic abdominal exploratory
  • Recognise findings that should change the surgical plan
  • Decide when to proceed, modify the approach, biopsy or seek specialist help
  • Avoid decisions that can complicate later treatment

Expect real clinical cases, diagnostic and operative images and surgical video, with time for questions throughout the evening.

Who should attend?

If you’re a small animal vet who has opened an abdomen and found something you weren’t expecting, or taken off a lump and wished you’d planned it differently, you’ll leave with insights you can use in your own practice.

Nurses, technicians, interns and students are welcome. You’ll see cases and surgical video firsthand, and it’s a chance to meet our Nexus nursing team and ask any questions you’d like about emergency and critical care.
