When your pet needs intensive care, every detail matters. It’s not just about treatment – it’s about being seen, understood, and supported in every moment. Every ICU and ward patient is assigned their vet and nurse at Nexus, so care is constant, personal, and responsive.
Our open-plan design and glass-fronted wards mean your pet is never out of sight. Digital treatment sheets track every real-time update, helping our team spot subtle changes and act quickly. This attentiveness gives critically ill pets the best chance to recover.
Whether your pet arrives straight from triage or stabilises after surgery, our ICU team steps in without pause, ensuring comfort, consistency, and expert care from the moment they arrive.
Our ICU is built for critically ill pets, with medical vigilance paired with attentive, hands-on support. Oxygen therapy, active warming, humidity control, and soft heated bedding create an environment where patients can rest and recover. Crib-style housing allows for gentle handling and constant visual checks, while cage-side mobile x-rays reduce the need for stressful transfers.
We take pain and stress seriously. Each pet is assessed using a formal pain scale and treated accordingly. Where possible, we use calming techniques – from scent therapy to kennel-side TV, to help pets feel secure. If those aren’t enough, we gently introduce medication to support healing.
Even the most minor details matter: pets aren’t housed facing one another, temperatures are carefully maintained, and the setting is peaceful. With quiet time, kind handling, and reassuring presence, patients receive the support they need to rest and return to strength.
Pet intensive care doesn’t mean leaving you behind. At Nexus, you’re welcome to stay with your pet – even overnight – because your company can be just as healing as ours. You’ll be able to see them, sit beside them, and speak with our team whenever you need to.
Behind the scenes, human hospital-style rounds ensure every detail is covered. Vets and nurses hand over cases carefully, so your pet’s treatment is consistent, coordinated, and guided by fresh insight at every shift.
If their condition changes unexpectedly, you’ll hear from us directly – with honesty, empathy, and the time and space to make informed decisions. You’re never out of the conversation, never left wondering, and never expected to face this alone.
Dr Gosliga, THANK YOU for your tender care. My 14 year old rescue, Maya, had suddenly become very ill and the diagnosis was sepsis leading to organ failure. You discussed the treatment options in a compassionate way. We agreed on supportive care to improve her comfort, and then taking her to familiar surroundings for euthanasia at home. We miss Maya so much, but the quality of her last hours were in no small part due to your quick willingness to lend what helpful support you could.
